Unfrozen

Well-once again-it has been too long since I have last posted.  I promised myself that I would not do that again.  I think that I have a good excuse this time.  It was a terribly brutal winter-hibernation is not just for animals!   I literally was either at work or under a blanket for months!!
Good news is...it has been warming up.  Last weekend it was 80 degrees!  I finally thawed out!  My spring resolution...I am not going to neglect my blog.  Honest!

To start the spring posts off....
This is a drawing I did for a very special person.  She loves dragonflies.  Of course, as you may know, my style is not realism.  It is Stephanie-ism.  I really liked the way it turned out.  I think she did too.  She will always be my favorite sister-in-law!!

Dreaming of Summer...and Sun

I have always loved this drawing.  It makes me think of summer.  I would love for it to be summer now!  I am over winter and snow.
I have some new ideas swimming in my head for books and drawings.  I am thinking of maybe organizing an outdoor art and music festival this year.  I have to check on the venue. Be back here soon!  Think Green!

Tried a new thing!

I tried deconstructing a book.  I have never done this before. I had an idea and 2 books later...it worked.  I created a tree inside a book.  I didn't add anything to the book, I just used the pages inside. I had an idea to make a tree.  Imagined what it would look like, and here it is. What do you think??
Give me some feedback.  :)
This new year-I have some new things in mind.  I am planning a lot of new books, artwork and possibly a line for sale.  I have been working on it-which is why I have been absent from my blog.  I have promised myself that my blog will be a priority this year too!!
I created a twitter account-follow me on twitter!  I will start it up soon!!

My Houses....

This is one of my little fairy houses.  One of my favorites.  I really like making these little homes.  I just wish I could spend a few days inside myself.
This one is really cute too! Seeds from the tree and pine cones!
The one in the front is my first one.  All sticks.  I love making these.  I can feel the energy in them when I am creating them.

Some of my latest..

I am obsessed with this little princess.  I do not do portraits, but after seeing pictures of her, I had to do one.  She is my little cousin, cousin, cousin...just beautiful.  I truly do not do her justice.

Wow...time to get back to posting...

It sure has been awhile..it has been a more then hectic several months.  I really cannot begin to tell you what has been happening.  In between life-I have been trying to get in some artwork.  I will post some next.   Thanks for being patient with me...keep following me.  There are a lot of new things to come and hopefully some exciting changes!

Name Game

More names...
I love doing these names.
I have done a few more and have more that I have on order.
It is a mystery how they will turn out.
These two are David and Debbie...

Where I Want to Be....

This looks like a place I would like to be.  I am always looking for serenity.  The garden center down the road from me has the countdown to spring on their sign.  I really can't wait every year.  I plan to plant my bamboo this year.  My next drawing should have bamboo...

Giraffe Dancer

Of the friends that I have in my life...I am truly blessed to have absloutely incredible ones.
This drawing is for another one of those friends.
This one has a lot of meaning, but I am not going to go in to all of that.  The dancing figures are something that I created a few years ago and I love them.  They make me feel free...  It would be great to be able to create all day long-to just be involved in art type work.  Sigh...maybe someday.  In the meantime, I will just continue to crank it out in the evenings and on weekends!

(On another note....it is 65 degrees outside today....in January!  It felt so nice!)

New Artwork

Wow~where has the time gone?!  I have been busy getting through the holidays and working on some new handmade books and artwork.  I have a new technique that I am doing with my pen and ink.  I am using pen, ink and pencil.

This is a piece that I did for a friend of mine.  I have never drawn a cat or an owl in anything I have done before.  Well, at least not as an adult.  I really liked how it turned out, and I think she liked it too.  I will be posting more artwork and the books when I have them finished.

If it keeps snowing and if the temperature outside doesn't
get any better, I just might have a lot to post.  I can't stand the thought of going out there!  (Well-of course-I still have to go to work)

I always welcome feedback!

Making Jewelry

I am thinking more and more seriously of making jewelry to sell and incorporating my artwork into the pieces.  Here is a necklace that I made for my cousin, she is like a sister to me.  I knew, at least hoped, that she would be honest and tell me the truth~she liked it.  I drew the cherry blossoms and laminated the drawing to the bamboo piece, then I created the rest of the necklace.

With the holidays just around the corner, I need to get started on some pieces to sell.  I have a few ideas for necklaces for teen boys too.  As soon as I have them together-I will post them.  They are all original artwork pieces too.

These two are just because I like peace signs.

Give me some feedback....let me know what you think...

24-Hour Comic Day

Jesse and I ventured off the to Mansfied Art Center on October 20 for the 24 hour event....24-Hour Comic Day.  This event was created by comic artist Scott McCloud (I think I have that right).  It is a worldwide event.  The idea is that you create a comic book in 24 hours.  One page an hour.  Acutally, the break down says you should do it in 45-minutes with restroom breaks and what-not...

So-Jesse and I have never done comic books.  Jesse would be a natural.  He has been writing Joe and Bob books for years now.  I, on the other hand, do not write stories.  I draw pictures--I make books.  I can do this...it is a challenge.  I am always up for a challenge.

We packed a cooler, packed snacks, art supplies, Mountain Dew for Jesse, Arizona Tea for me.  Drove an hour and a half-walked in the door and got started.  (NO-the drive back did not enter my mind-1 1/2 hours driving sleep deprived was the furthest thing from my mind).

We had the best time.  We met some great artists-we laughed a lot.  We are still laughing.  We laughed a lot on the way home...nothing was funny though...it was the lack of sleep.  Maybe I should say...it wasn't that funny.  I saw things that weren't really there.  That was funny.  We can't wait to do it again.

Jesse finished his comic at about 6:30 ish AM-whatever!!  I finished mine at about 5:00 pm..

I do hope to meet up someday with the artists we met again.  They are awesome.  Derrick does some amazing work-color is amazing too!  Stay posted-when I can I will share a site that you can see the work of everyone!
